Here are my photos from the Northern Worthersee Euro car show in Frakenmuth, Michigan this past weekend.
Now, Before the show, I had to meet up with a convoy of 40+ cars for the 45 minute voyage. Comprised of mostly VAG cars, some BMWs, two Nissans(no idea why), and myself being the only Porsche in the convoy, I’m pretty sure I was voted most likely to break down on the drive, if that was a thing.
Shockingly, I was not the car, or rather, cars to break down. You must remember this was a cruise of check engine lights and whatever problems Nissans have.
Two E30s were lost along the way. The first one had its exhaust fall and dangle along the freeway while driving right in front of me; sparks and whatnot as he quickly pulled to the shoulder of the road. The second, although I didn’t see it, I was told was later seen on the side of the road with a lot of smoke.
And now that I think of it, one Mk3 Jetta arrived with busted coolant line. In any case....
The “survivors” arrived to NoWo, this awesome bridge was the entrance.
I payed registration and parked in my spot, I watched the other cars arrive, an I started to notice a trend with the VAG cars.
But first, Audi Quattro!!
Now do you see the trend?
EVERY VW IS BAGGED ON BIG WHEELS(Save for that one in the upper left with Porsche phone dials and one more you’ll see down below). I’m still trying to figure out how this is such a popular thing; this being my first Euro car show and all.
Now, I thought I was the only Porsche there when I arrived and would totes win 1st place in Porsche class. Until I looked across from where I parked.
It was at that moment, I knew I had 2nd place, and which car would win best in show...
Oh well, Erika was still looking fantastic, could’ve won the prize for most original/unmodified car at the show, if that was a thing.
My friend’s E30 made it to the show in one piece(his speedometer broke on the way back though.)
Supercharged M5
And that other car I didn’t understand, look at this one:
I don’t get it yet either...
I’d never seen so many Swedes in one spot before.
And then I saw Porsche #3 (-_-)
To be fair, it’s the cleanest 1st gen I’ve ever seen.
Car Limbo:
Alpina B6:
My favorite Mercs at the show:
The final contestants:
The 911 won 1st, I won 2nd, and the Cayenne 3rd for best in Porsche class. Now I bet you’re thinking that the blue chrome C63 AMG or one of those wagons won best in show.
Actually, it was the Audi Quattro Group B Replica, if you saw it when it arrived, if you thought you had a chance of winning, at that moment you should have driven pushed your car into the river. So if you want to win a Euro car show, make a rally car.

These cars spend a long time in service. Rod bearings are a pretty bad failure just out of warranty. Sucks to have money to buy nice things only to have to spend a boatload more money on them when they break from a defect and the manufacturer doesn’t want to fix it because the warranty just ran out. (There’s two of these at a dealership near where I work both just out of warranty with bad rod bearings).

Are you saying the German cars broke down on the way to the meet? And the Japanese cars didn’t?
And that you’re surprised at this outcome?

English cars are for old men, Italian cars are too expensive for pedestrian meets. German cars have a sort of stancelyfyoblingdumped thing going on these days don’t they? I guess they’re hot with the kids at the moment.

PS. I’m stereotyping here, it’s not necessarily what I believe.

That’s awful. If you wanted the thing to fail you’d take it to some backyard shop to get it tuned. You’re buying from a respectable tuner company because you expect them to do it right, if I was in this situation I’d be very upset.

I love English cars!! I’m only 23 and own one, though I’m told I’m like 45-50 at heart and should have been born in the UK.. So might be a bit biases / outlier here

Personally, I would avoid an Alpina like the plague. Sure theyre really nice, but when corporate and the dealer fight for months over repairs, its just not worth it.

Sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. I’ve always hoped they were complete packages, they seem so nice.

What have you got?
There are exceptions to every rule ;)

Hellaflush, yo! seems to be the trend here.I counted 3 non stanced VWs; the Golf Harlequin, the yellow TorchBue-like beetle, and the Golf on phone dials. Seems to a pretty undiverse group; mostly new water cooled VWs, Volvos, and Bimmers.

Kind of on par with most exotics if Im being honest. Manufacturers pass the buck when something breaks because you drove the car hard, but other things break or wear unevenly if you dont. My SL had 99,960 miles on it when I bought it. If it had less, I would have been scared.
The guy selling the Alfa Romeo SZ is doing so because its so low mileage hes terrified something will happen. Its a hard balance to find between whats used and whats abused, but when its an issue on new cars, thats just messed up.
